2023/24 Caf CL: Al Ahly triumphs over Esperance to clinch record 12th title

Egyptian giants Al Ahly, have clinched their 12th Caf Champions League title in the competition after defeating Tunisian side ES Tunis by a 1-0 aggregate scoreline in Cairo.

The first leg of the game ended in a goalless draw in Tunis, while Ahly finished everything tonight at the Cairo International Stadium by a goal to nil.

The match got off to a fiery start with Ahly seizing the lead in the 4th minute from an own goal scored by Roger Aholou.

Hussein El-Shahat’s corner kick found Ahly’s captain Rami Rabia, whose header was redirected by Aholou into the net past goalkeeper Amanallah Memmiche.

Marcel Koller, Ahly’s coach, opted for a strategic shift, allowing ES Tunis to dominate possession. This tactical change led to Esperance controlling the game, evident in their superior possession and passing statistics by the end of the match.

Esperance really took charge of the game, but Ahly’s defense stood strong, preventing any significant threats. With goalkeeper Mostafa Shobier stepping up to make crucial saves when needed.

Ahly will be facing off against their city rivals Zamalek in the CAF Super Cup.
