Black Stars job: GFA Exco member Fred Acheampong debunks Otto Addo rumours

Ghana Football Association(GFA) Executive Committee member, Frederick Acheampong, has denied media reports that Otto Addo is at the forefront for the vacant Black Stars job.

The German-trained Ghanaian coach has been mentioned as the clear favourite of the GFA as the choice for the Ghana job, according to local media.

Ghana’s search for a new Black Stars coach continues after the FA appointed a search committee to present qualified applicants for the job to the Executive Committee.

The Mark Addo-led team is yet to make a final decision on the over 500 applications received so far, including that of Otto Addo.

“The appointment of the coach does not even stop with the search committee.

“The Executive Committee’s decision made was that the search team should draw up a shortlist of three coaches, so I was surprise to hear that Otto Addo is leading the race as if the search committee are in charge to appoint a coach.

“They are expected to bring three coaches to the Executive Council for further discussions and checks before one person will be chosen amongst the three,” he said on Kessben FM.

The Borussia Dortmund coaching staff member was in charge of the Black Stars in 2022 and qualified Ghana for the 2022 FIFA World Cup with a win over Nigeria in the final playoff round.

He continued to handle the Black Stars until Ghana crashed out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar at the end of the group stage on the back of two defeats and one win.

Chris Hughton replaced Otto Addo as the next Ghana coach till his sack in January at the Afcon 2023.
