It’s wrong to sack Chris Hughton from Ghana coach role – Kyei Mensah Bonsu

Ghana’s Majority Leader of Parliament, Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu has expressed his displeasure over the sacking of Chris Hughton from the Black Stars coaching role.

The 65-year-old gaffer was relieved off his duties after Ghana exited the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations with two points from three group stage games.

The Black Stars lost to Cape Verde 2-1, then had 2-2 stalemates with Egypt and Mozambique.

As a result, the Ghana Football Association has sacked Hughton and have already commenced the search for a new trainer with a five-man committee.

For Kyei Mensah, the decision is not in the right step of Ghana’s football.

“I don’t believe in the sacking of coaches at all. We should have allowed Chris Hughton to work,” he told Angel FM in an interview.

“After our first game against Cape Verde, tactically, we played much better in our second game against Egypt.

“You don’t blame the defensive errors on the coach.

“In our final group game against Mozambique, we had a two goals lead until Mozambique equalized both goals in added time.

“Who caused it? He quizzed. You blame the coach.”

Ghana’s Youth and Sports Ministry are yet to make known the amount used to sponsor the team’s Afcon 2023 campaign.

The country’s sports governing body released an official letter stating their intent to find solutions to the Black Stars abysmal performance at the tourney.
