#FootyTransfers: Jonathan Mensah completes move to New England Revolution

Jonathan Mensah has officially joined New England Revolution in Major League Soccer, making a move from San Jose Earthquakes.

The 33-year-old defender sealed a one-year contract with the option to extend for an additional year.

“New England Revolution have signed veteran defender Jonathan Mensah as a free agent. Mensah, an MLS Cup winner and former MLS Best XI selection, joins the Revolution on a one-year contract for the 2024 Major League Soccer season with an additional one-year option for 2025,” the statement said.

Mensah brings seven seasons of MLS experience to New England, including an impactful six-year stint with the Columbus Crew from 2017 to 2022.

Guided by New England’s new head coach, Caleb Porter, Mensah played a pivotal role in Columbus winning the 2020 MLS Cup title, featuring in every minute of the regular season and playoffs and earning recognition in the MLS Best XI.

Having contributed to the Crew’s success in winning the Campeones Cup in 2021, Mensah achieved a career-high with 30 starts during the 2022 campaign.

Ahead of the 2023 season, he joined the San Jose Earthquakes, making 26 appearances, including 21 starts, and played a key role in San Jose’s journey to the postseason.
