Ghana coach Chris Hughton has named three local-based players, Richmond Lamptey, Jonathan Sowah and Abdul Fatawu Hamidu for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.
Medeama duo, Hamidu and Sowah have had recent spells with the national team and their prowess in the Caf Champions League has played a vital role in their stake for a spot.
At the AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire, Hughton will count on Hamidu to be active in the left-back position alongside Gideon Mensah.
On the other hand, Sowah will offer support in attack as a third force along with Inaki Williams and Antoine Semenyo.
The new player in the setup is Asante Kotoko’s captain Richmond Lamptey who has produced some great performances in the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League.
Lamptey is expected to make a point in midfield with Majeed Ashimeru as the central midfielders for the Stars. In context, the absence of Thomas Partey places the team’s ball progression at the doors of the two WAFA graduates.
However, Majeed and Lamptey are joined by team captain Andre Ayew in the said role.
