2023/24 Caf CL: Medeama lose 3-0 to dominant Al Ahly in Cairo

Ghanaian champions Medeama lost to Al Ahly on matchday one of the 2023/24 Caf Champions League group stage Saturday night.

At the Al Salam Stadium, Ahly, made a strong start to their title defence in the CAF Champions League with a 3-0 result that justified their dominance in the encounter.

The first half showcased a brilliant defensive effort from Medeama, holding Al Ahly to a goalless draw.

However, the second half looked defensively satisfactory for the Mauve and Yellow till Al Ahly broke the deadlock in the 66th minute.

Mahmoud Kahraba’s header changed the direction of the strike from Hussein El Shahat as goalkeeper Felix Kyei had already dived.

Ahly continued their good game and midfielder Hussein El Shahat extended the lead in the 75th minute.

Salah Mohsen then sealed the victory with the third goal in the 88th minute.

Algerian champions CR Belouizdad, who also secured a 3-0 win against Tanzanian side Yanga SC on Friday complete the results on matchday 1 in the group.

Medeama will host CR Belouizdad in Kumasi for their second Caf Champions league game, while Yanga play Al Ahly in Tanzania.
