Paintsil strikes for second league goal as Genk draw 3-3 with Westerlo

Ghana international Joseph Paintsil notched his second goal of the 2023/24 Belgian Jupiler Pro League season in a thrilling match that saw KRC Genk draw at home against Westerlo on Sunday.

The winger found the net for Genk’s third goal just four minutes into the second half, propelling his team to a 2-1 lead after an eventful first 45 minutes of play.

Before Paintsil’s crucial strike, his compatriot Christopher Baah Bonsu faced a setback, receiving a red card right on the stroke of halftime. This marked Bonsu’s second red card of the season.

Despite Paintsil’s contribution that extended Genk’s lead to 3-1, Westerlo held the numerical advantage and staged a resilient comeback, eventually leveling the score at 3-3 by the end of the 90-minute contest.

Joseph Paintsil, who had played a key role in the match, was substituted in the 80th minute, shortly before the visiting side secured the equalizer.

KRC Genk currently occupy 6th position in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League standings after 9 games.
