Official: 2030 Fifa World Cup to commemorate centenary with Spain, Portugal, and Morocco hosting

FIFA has officially declared that the 2030 men’s World Cup will see Spain, Portugal, and Morocco join forces as co-hosts, unveiling a momentous decision in the world of football.

To honour the Mundial’s centenary, FIFA has planned for the opening three matches to be held in South America, harkening back to the World Cup’s inaugural edition in Uruguay in 1930.

It was in this very country that the Uruguayan national team, known as La Celeste, clinched the trophy on home soil and famously repeated the feat in 1950, defeating their arch-rivals Brazil in a memorable final.

The city of Montevideo, Uruguay’s capital, has been selected to host the opening match of the 2030 World Cup.

This vibrant start will be followed by additional games in Argentina and Paraguay, creating an electrifying start to the 48-team competition.

Subsequently, the tournament will transition to venues across Africa and Europe, highlighting the global reach and unity that football fosters among nations.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino stated unequivocally, “The FIFA Council agreed unanimously that the only bid to host the 2030 World Cup will be the joint bid of Morocco, Portugal, and Spain.”

In making this choice, FIFA underscores the powerful symbolism of unity between two continents, Africa and Europe, not solely as a celebration of football but as a testament to the profound values of social and cultural cohesion.

Infantino aptly noted, “What a great message of peace, tolerance, and inclusion.”
