Injury Blow: Joseph Aidoo to miss USA-Ghana friendly with ankle issue

Defender Joseph Aidoo has been declared unavailable for Ghana’s international friendly against the United States of America (USA), scheduled for Tuesday, October 17.

The centre-back, earning his 12th cap, started for the Black Stars in last Saturday’s defeat to Mexico in Charlotte, North Carolina. However, his appearance was cut short after just 27 minutes due to an injury.

Aidoo sustained the injury while vying for possession against the swift Mexican forward Hirvin Lozano, twisting his left ankle in the process.

Ghana’s medical team tended to him on the field, but it became apparent that his condition required further evaluation and treatment.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has provided an update on Aidoo’s condition, stating that the player was set to return to his club in Spain for immediate treatment.

“Further tests by team Doctors have confirmed that Aidoo sustained an ankle tendons injury and would require immediate treatment to return to action.

“The player is due to fly back to his club in Spain for further treatment,” a portion of the statement read.

Aidoo, the former Inter Allies captain, was part of the Black Stars’ contingent that traveled from Charlotte to Nashville on Sunday, where he is expected to connect to Spain for treatment.

In other team news, left-back Fatawu Hamidu rejoins the Black Stars after being excused to participate in his club, Medeama SC’s, international friendly against DC United at the Audi Field.

Ghana is now preparing to face the United States Men’s National Team (USMNT) at GEODIS Park in Nashville, Tennessee.
