Ghana’s Maxwell Woledzi inspires Fredrikstad FK to Norwegian Eliteserien return

Ghanaian prodigy Maxwell Woledzi played a pivotal role in helping Fredrikstad FK (FFK) secure their return to topflight football for the 2024 season with a remarkable 4-0 away victory over Asane on Sunday.

The nine-time Eliteserien champions with an impressive record of 11 Norwegian Cup triumphs, have reclaimed their rightful place at the pinnacle of Norwegian football.

Fredrikstad have surged to an unassailable seven-point lead atop the 1st Division league standings with four games remaining.

Woledzi, the versatile talent capable of excelling as a centre-back, right-back, or in defensive midfield, made a significant impact after his summer transfer from Portuguese side Vitoria Guimaraes. He penned a three-year deal until 2026 with the Fredrikstad Stadion outfit.

Since his arrival, the 22-year-old has featured in 11 league matches, contributing to three clean sheets and guiding the team to only one defeat since his debut.

With promotion secured well in advance, Fredrikstad FK can now methodically navigate their remaining fixtures to solidify their top position by the end of the 2023 season next month. They are scheduled to face Sandnes Ulf, Mjondalen, Moss, and Jerv on the final day, November 12, to cap off what can only be described as an exceptionally successful campaign.
