Ghana coach Chris Hughton urges team to improve goal threat in USA friendly

Ghana coach Chris Hughton expects his team to improve their goal-scoring threat against the United States of America (USA) following their 2-0 to Mexico last Saturday.

The Black Stars lost in North Carolina against El Tricolor and failed to even hit a shot on target in the game at the Bank of America Stadium.

As Hughton prepares his charges for their second friendly in the United States, the gaffer hopes they improve their attacking play and finishing.

“To have opportunities, it means you need to penetrate a team, and generally there are two ways to penetrate: working through the thirds or making runs behind.

“These are the two areas we certainly need to improve,” the experienced tactician spoke at the pre-match press conference.

“Against Mexico, even though in the first half the performance was decent, over the 90 minutes, we were not a big enough threat on their goal. That’s what has to change.”

Ghana plays the USA at the Geodis Park in Nashville at 12:30 AM Ghanaian time on Wednesday, October 18.

The Black Stars are using the two friendlies to prepare for their two 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in November.

Against Mexico, Antoine Semenyo started as the centre forward and its expected that Inaki Williams returns to lead the lines against the Americans.
