Veteran coach Bashiru Hayford believes Asante Kotoko are the favourites to win the 2023/24 betPawa Ghana Premier League.
The former Porcupine Warriors coach sees Prosper Narteh Ogum as the best gaffer to win the current Ghana Premier League season despite the poor start to the campaign.
Kotoko kickstarted their league season with a draw against Heart of Lions and lost to Gold Stars in matchweek two.
However, the Reds have recorded victories in their last two games, pushing them to the top spots in the domestic top-flight division. Kotoko beat Accra Lions 1-0 and won by the same result against Aduana in Kumasi.
Bashiru Hayford, in an interview with Fox FM, asserted that the Porcupines are best placed to win the league title if they can claim four consecutive victories.
“They are doing very well at the moment. They have won two games in a row and looking at the league if they are able to win about four games and then go top of the league table, it will be difficult for the other teams to bring them down.
“So I am praying for Kotoko to go top of the league and you know when Kotoko is on top of the table, it is always hard for other teams to displace them, “Bashiru Hayford said.
“They are doing well. Ogum is someone who frequently calls me to discuss football and all that. He calls me “Uncle”.
“What the team went through in the very first games of the season was normal because it was a new team the coach is forming, it was not like the team was already there. Now they have played five games, people will start seeing the level of Kotoko after the tenth match.”
The Ghanaian giants play the struggling Nations FC on match week six as Prosper Ogum envisages three wins from the last three games.
His opponent Kasim Mingle Ocansey has had a torrid start at Abrankese and will hope for a victory.
