2023 #WPLSuperCup: Army Ladies triumph over Hasaacas, crowned champions

Army Ladies emerged victorious in the 2023 Women’s Premier Super Cup final, clinching the championship title with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Sekondi Hasaacas Ladies at the Kyebi Astro Turf on Sunday.

The Accra-based team wasted no time in taking control of the final, as Latiffa Mohammed struck an early blow by finding the net just two minutes into the game.

Hasaacas Ladies, determined to mount a comeback, responded swiftly, with Fidous Yakubu converting a penalty in the 16th minute to level the score and keep the contest alive.

Both teams exhibited a potent attacking threat throughout the match, but solid defensive efforts on both sides ensured that they entered halftime with the score tied.

The second half saw Army Ladies assert their dominance, launching a barrage of attacks and keeping the pressure on their opponents.

Their efforts were rewarded in the dying moments of the game when Harriet Adjetey struck a decisive goal in the 81st minute, securing a 2-1 victory for the Southern Zone team and becoming the third different team to win the Women’s Premier Super Cup title.

Army Ladies now join the ranks of Hasaacas Ladies (2021) and Faith Ladies (2022) as champions of this prestigious tournament.

The Women’s Premier Super Cup serves as a vital part of preparations for the upcoming season, ensuring that teams are in peak form as they look ahead to the challenges that lie ahead.
