2024 U-20 WWCQ: Basigi summons 39 Princesses to prepare for Guinea-Bissau clash

Black Princesses coach, Yusif Basigi has summoned thirty-nine (39) players to gear up for the African qualifiers leading to the 2024 Fifa U-20 Women’s World Cup, slated to be held in Colombia.

In June, Ghana received a fortunate draw that awarded them a bye in the initial stages of the qualifiers. As a result, they will kick-start their campaign in the second round, where they are slated to go head-to-head with Guinea-Bissau in an intriguing home-and-away tie next month.

The opening leg of this matchup is set to take place on October 8, 2023, with the Princesses embarking on a challenging away fixture. The pressure will then shift to Ghana as they host the return encounter on October 15, 2023.

Guinea-Bissau’s journey to this pivotal encounter with Ghana was no easy feat. They successfully eliminated Togo in the first round of qualifiers, setting the stage for an intriguing showdown between the two West African nations.

The stakes could not be higher, as the aggregate winner of this contest will advance to the third round of qualifiers, scheduled for November 12-19. At this stage, four countries will engage in a fiercely competitive round-robin format, vying for the coveted two slots that will secure their representation of Africa at the 2024 Fifa U-20 Women’s World Cup.

Coach Yusif Basigi has wasted no time in putting his plans into action for a record seventh straight U-20 World Cup qualification. The squad will open camping at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram on Wednesday, September 13.
