2023/24 UCL: Osman Bukari scores on debut as Red Star fall to Man City

Ghana’s Osman Bukari scored a goal for Red Star Belgrade in the Uefa Champions League, but his team ultimately lost to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night.

The 24-year-old winger delivered a standout performance for his team, despite their defeat in the opening fixture, as the defending champions staged a comeback victory.

Bukari struck with precision on the brink of halftime, breaking the deadlock and surprising City by giving his team an unexpected lead.

However, his goal was quickly nullified shortly after the break, courtesy of a superb finish by Argentinean striker Julian Alvarez, who later added another goal, propelling his team into the lead.

Rodri sealed the victory in the 73rd minute by converting a pass from Phil Foden, securing a 3-1 triumph for the English champions.

Bukari’s contribution so far in the 2023/24 season now stands at four goals and two assists in eight games for the 1991 European champions.

Following the match, Bukari expressed his disappointment via his Twitter account, despite scoring his debut goal in the competition on his 50th appearance for the Serbian champions. He wrote: “Unfortunately, not the results we wanted, but we will come back stronger! Thank y’all for the support!”

Osman Bukari, who joined Red Star Belgrade last season, has been a valuable contributor with 19 goals and 12 assists in his short time at the club.
