Ghana international Jordan Ayew recorded his first assist as Crystal Palace kickstarted their 2023/24 English Premier League campaign with a dominant 1-0 victory away to Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Saturday.
Amidst the fervor surrounding Wilfried Zaha’s exit, the Eagles’ attack surged forward, and it was Ayew’s indomitable spirit that unlocked the game’s decisive moment in the early stages of the second half.
Displaying a mesmerizing blend of skill and determination, Ayew danced past his marker, the valiant Ben Osborn, and conjured a low cross imbued with sheer power and uncanny precision. This perfectly served platter found Odsonne Edouard, who coolly slotted the ball past Sheffield’s vigilant goalkeeper, 1-0.

Not content with just one act of brilliance, Crystal Palace pressed on, their offense a relentless storm that could have easily blown the scoreline wide open.
But they saw a goal was disallowed on each side of the break. Ayew’s effort was ruled offside in the first half after Anderson’s powerful shot was parried by Sheffield’s goalkeeper. Edouard also had a goal disallowed in the second half due to offside.
Ayew’s compatriot, Jeffrey Schlupp, also played the entire game for Crystal Palace.
However, there was no place in the Sheffield United match-day squad for Black Meteors goalkeeper Jordan Amissah.
The victory sets a positive tone for Crystal Palace at the start of the season, and Jordan Ayew’s assist played a crucial role in their success.
