Mohammed Kudus showcased his brilliance with a stunning hat-trick, propelling AFC Ajax to a convincing 4-1 triumph on their visit to Bulgarian champions PFC Ludogorets in the playoffs for the group stage of the 2023/24 Uefa Europa League on Thursday.
The Ghanaian international, despite being on the verge of a reported transfer to English side West Ham United, maintained his position in the starting lineup.
Kudus wasted no time in making his mark, firing in the opening goal in the 16th minute after Devyne Rensch’s tenacious ball-winning efforts in a threatening area.
Just two minutes later, an exceptional through ball by Kenneth Taylor found Kudus in prime position to slot home his second goal of the night.
Before the halftime whistle, Ajax extended their lead to 3-0, with Brian Brobbey heading in a precision cross from Wijndal from close range.
Goalkeeper Jay Gorter showcased his skills early in the second half, making an outstanding save following an error by Jakov Medic.
Kudus then completed his hat-trick, securing a 4-0 advantage for Ajax in the 50th minute. Substitute Carlos Forbs sped past his opponent and with an assist from Steven Bergwijn, Kudus calmly finished the goal.
Although Ludogorets managed to beat Gorter from the penalty spot after a handball by Jorrel Hato, Olivier Verdon’s converted penalty only served as a consolation, leaving the final score at 4-1 in favour of the visitors.
