Samuel Asamoah: ‘I’m ready to uphold Kotoko’s number-two legacy’

New Asante Kotoko signing, Samuel Asamoah, is determined to etch his name in the annals of the club’s history, aspiring to be mentioned alongside revered legends known for the position he plays.

With his pen freshly set to paper on a three-year contract, the 23-year-old right-back expressed his delight at signing for the Porcupine Warriors, stating that it is a significant achievement to be part of a club he has long admired.

“This is a great step for me because it has been the club I have always prayed for, and to be here finally means a lot,” Asamoah remarked in his first interview at the club.

The talented newcomer acknowledged the rich history and weight associated with wearing the Kotoko jersey, particularly the right-back role.

“I know fans of Kotoko do not take their number-two position lightly because of names like Frank Amankwaa, Aziz Ansah and Amos Frimpong,” he stated.

Undeterred by the expectations, Asamoah is committed to putting forth his best efforts to join the esteemed ranks of these celebrated football icons who came before him.

“But I will be ready to do my best to be remembered like these legends,” Asamoah confidently asserted.

Asamoah’s journey to Kotoko comes hot on the heels of a remarkable season with Bofoakwa Tano, where he played a pivotal role in helping the Sunyani-based side secure Premier League qualification after a 16-year absence. His contributions included 18 appearances and five assists in the 2022/23 DOL season, showcasing his versatility and potential.

Samuel Asamoah’s addition to the Asante Kotoko lineup marks the fourth defensive reinforcement in coach Prosper Narteh Ogum’s rebuilding strategy, following the earlier signings of Yahaya Dawuni, Nanabanyin Amoah, and Ansu Henry.
