New boy Salisu aims for fitness and long-term performance at AS Monaco

Ghanaian defender Mohammed Salisu has articulated his ambitions for his new chapter in French football with AS Monaco.

After a three-season stint with English side Southampton, the 24-year-old recently made a 15 million euros switch to Ligue 1 from The Saints.

During his presentation to the French press on Friday, Salisu candidly shared his objectives for his time with the club. He emphasized his commitment to attaining peak physical condition as well as maintaining that level, aspects he views as integral to his journey with Monaco, especially after a period of sidelined action due to a knee injury that saw him miss league games since March.

Salisu, who showcased his talents in two preseason matches with Southampton before his move to France, is resolute in his mission to accelerate his training efforts and return to the playing field with vigor.

Reflecting on the previous season’s hardships, he shared, “Last season was difficult for me, I had some physical issues.”

Eager to make his mark at AS Monaco, Salisu expressed his commitment to intense daily training to ensure he’s ready for action as swiftly as possible.

“Currently I am working hard daily to be ready as soon as possible and to be available to the coach and the squad,” he affirmed.

Informed by the challenges he faced, Salisu’s ultimate goal extends beyond immediate recovery.

He stated with determination, “My goal is to get back in shape fairly quickly, but above all to stay in shape for the long term.”

This resolute attitude underscores his dedication to contributing effectively to AS Monaco’s endeavors, both in the immediate future and throughout his journey with the club.

Salisu’s absence also extended to international duty, with the defender missing Ghana’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifying matches against Angola and Madagascar due to his injury. While his return for the crucial fixture against Central African Republic on September 4 remains uncertain, Salisu’s steadfast dedication to his recovery journey and long-term fitness signifies his determination to overcome setbacks and make a significant impact in his new environment at AS Monaco.
