Iñaki Williams scores, guiding Athletic Bilbao to 2-0 win over Osasuna

Ghana striker Iñaki Williams found the back of the net as Athletic Bilbao registered a confident 2-0 victory over Osasuna during match-day two of the 2023/24 Spanish LaLiga.

The Basque side entered the Saturday night following a defeat in their season opener against Real Madrid.

However, they rebounded with a stellar performance, highlighted by a captivating display from the 29-year-old forward and his brother Nico Williams, who played a pivotal role in the first goal.

In the 11th minute, a perfectly delivered cross from Nico found Iñaki in the box. With expert timing and precision, Iñaki connected with the ball using his right foot, sending it beyond the goalkeeper’s reach and securing the lead for his team.

The early goal injected newfound energy into the team. Despite being away from home, Athletic Bilbao continued to apply pressure on the hosts, eventually reaping the rewards.

In the 20th minute, Bilbao extended their advantage with another assist from Nico Williams. Spanish forward Gorka Guruzeta successfully directed the cross into the net, doubling their lead.

With no further goals in the match, Athletic Bilbao sealed a well-deserved 2-0 victory, showcasing their resilience and determination in the fiercely competitive LaLiga.

Having missed Ghana’s previous game against Madagascar in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers due to injury, Iñaki Williams is poised to make a return. He will aim to channel his form into the Black Stars when they face Central African Republic in a crucial final qualifier in September. Since his debut against Brazil in September 2022, he is yet to score for the national team.
