Fatawu Issahaku passes Leicester City medical ahead of loan with option

Ghana’s rising star, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, is on the cusp of joining Leicester City in the English Championship, can report.

The 19-year-old forward has already touched down in England and successfully completed his medical, with an official announcement anticipated before the transfer window shuts on Friday.

Fatawu is en route to the Foxes from Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon on an initial loan arrangement. The terms also include an option for the deal to transform into a permanent arrangement in the following summer.

Sources indicate that a fee of €17 million will be disbursed by Leicester City if they secure promotion back to the Premier League and should Fatawu achieve a 60 percent participation rate in the club’s matches throughout the 2023/24 season.

Fatawu’s trajectory had taken him to Sporting Lisbon in April 2022, following an intense competition for his signature from Ghanaian lower tier outfit Steadfast FC.

Last season, the prodigious youngster showcased his skills in the Uefa Champions League while representing Sporting Lisbon.

Furthermore, he was a member of Ghana’s national squad that participated in the 2022 Fifa World Cup held in Qatar.

Fatawu’s addition marks the third acquisition of a winger by manager Enzo Maresca this summer, augmenting the ranks alongside Stephy Mavididi and Yunus Akgun.
