Ernest Nuamah to Lyon: Tuesday medical scheduled ahead of loan-to-buy for €25m deal

Ghanaian winger Ernest Nuamah is on track to arrive in France on Tuesday, all set to undergo a mandatory medical before formalizing signing with Olympique Lyon.

As previously reported, the French Ligue 1 giants have been diligently working over the past weeks to secure the services of the promising talent on an initial loan from Danish Superligaen side FC Nordsjælland.

Emerging details now reveal that the season-long loan agreement is accompanied by a distinctive mandatory purchase option, estimated to be €25 million, plus €5m in add-ons.

This innovative arrangement, FootyGhana has learned, is strategically devised to navigate the stringent financial oversight of French football’s Direction Nationale du Contrôle de Gestion (DNCG).

While relatively unknown in France, Ernest Nuamah has garnered a reputation as a formidable force on the field, particularly feared by defenders in the Danish league. His impressive performances have sparked interest across Europe.

The 19-year-old prodigy boasts an impressive track record of 20 goals scored in 49 games for FC Nordsjælland. In the ongoing 2023/24 season, Nuamah has already found the net four times in as many games.

In the previous season, Nuamah showcased his versatility by playing in various attacking positions. He featured as a left winger for 9 games, operated on the right for 11 games, and served as a center forward for 10 matches.

Interestingly, Olympique Lyon’s success in securing Nuamah’s signature seems to have a connection to former player Michael Essien, who had represented the club between 2003 and 2005. Essien, now serving as an assistant coach at FC Nordsjælland, is believed to have played a role in facilitating his compatriot Nuamah’s imminent move to the Groupama Stadium.
