Bank of America Stadium confirmed as venue for Ghana-Mexico friendly

CHARLOTTE, NC – The Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA has finally been confirmed as the venue for the October 14, 2023 international friendly between Ghana and Mexico.

The matchup – a part of a four-match MexTour fall series – sees the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup champions meet the African powerhouse – was first announced in July to be played on American soil but the location remained unconfirmed.

The much-anticipated venue announcement finally came on Tuesday, with an official announcement that read:

“The Ghana Football Association, the Federación Mexicana de Fútbol (FMF) and Soccer United Marketing (SUM) wish to announce that Charlotte’s Bank of America Stadium has been selected as host of the October 14 MexTour International friendly match, between 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup champions Mexico and African powerhouse Ghana.

“Tickets for the match in Charlotte will go on sale this Friday, August 11 at 10 a.m. ET [14:00 GMT]…”

Historically, Ghana have faced El Tri from Mexico three times, each meeting ending in defeat for the Black Stars. Their most recent encounter was on June 28, 2017, in Houston, Texas, where Ghana succumbed to a narrow 1-0 loss.

The Bank of America Stadium, home to Charlotte FC and the Carolina Panthers, is no stranger to hosting MexTour fixtures and the Concacaf Gold Cup. Mexico last graced the venue on October 27, 2021, in a thrilling match against Ecuador.

This friendly will serve as a crucial preparation platform for both Mexico and Ghana as they gear up for the African qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup in November. It also provides a unique opportunity for them to connect with their avid fan base across North America.

In another exciting fixture, Ghana will also take on the United States of America at GEODIS Park in Nashville on Tuesday, October 17.
