Deal agreed for Salisu transfer from Southampton to AS Monaco

French Ligue 1 side AS Monaco have struck a deal with Southampton to recruit Ghana international Mohammed Salisu.

Personal terms have been agreed upon, and a medical is scheduled for early next week.

Salisu was left out of Southampton’s pre-season friendlies against AZ Alkmaar on Saturday and Bournemouth next Tuesday.

Fulham were close to finalising a £15 million deal to capture Salisu earlier this month until Marco Silva’s side diverted their attention to a successful chase of Nigerian Calvin Bassey.

The 24-year-old last played for Southampton in March. He was benched near the end of the season owing to concerns with his commitment and application in recovering from injury.

Southampton’s contract with the left-sided centre-back expires next summer, and despite prior negotiations about extending it, he was unlikely to stay following the club’s relegation to the Championship.

Since joining from Spanish side Real Valladolid in the summer of 2020, Salisu has clocked a combined 80 outings across all competitions in the Saints shirt. Last season, he appeared 22 times in the English Premier League.
