2023/24 Caf CL: Medeama to battle Nigeria’s Remo Stars in prelims

The 2023/23 Caf Champions League opening round will see a rekindling of the agelong Ghana-Nigeria rivalry following the pairing of Medeama SC and Remo Stars on Tuesday.

It is a clean slate for both sides as they will make their maiden appearance in the flagship continental club football competition.

Medeama are Ghana’s league champions for the 2022/23 season while Remo Stars are in after securing the second qualification spot in the Nigerian Professional Football League.

Per the draw for the competition held at the Caf headquarters in Cairo, Medeama SC will host the first leg at their chosen Cape Coast Stadium home grounds on August 18-20, 2023.

The Sky Blue Stars will host the return fixture a week later at their plush 5,000-capacity Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State.

The winner of the tie will advance to the second round to battle for the coveted group stage spot against Guinea’s Horoya AC.
