2023 U-23 Afcon: ‘We know if we don’t beat Guinea we don’t qualify’ – Meteors winger Nuamah

Winger Ernest Nuamah has stated the Black Meteors’ resolve to win their final group game at the 2023 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) currently taking place in Morocco.

Ghana’s advancement to the next phase of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games qualification tournament hinges on nothing but victory when they take on Guinea at the Ibn Batouta Stadium in Tangier on Friday, June 30.

Meteors – who won their opening game against Congo – find themselves in this precarious position due to Tuesday night’s 5-1 loss to hosts Morocco.

Ghana and next opponents Guinea tie on 3 points each but the latter have a superior goal difference, putting them in pole position to qualify for the semifinals should they avoid defeat on Friday.

Nuamah, who scored Ghana’s first goal at the tournament, says the team would quickly shelve the disappointment and focus on the must-win against Guinea.

“I have nothing to say. It’s football, it happens. I think we came with our game plan but it went their way.

“Our next game [against Guinea] is very important. We know that if we don’t win then we don’t qualify. So we are really coming in for it,” he stated.

The Ghana-Guinea game is scheduled for 20:00 GMT kickoff, same as the dead-rubber match between Group A leaders Morocco and Congo.
