2022/23 CafCL: It’s Ahly and Wydad for the final

African giants, Al Ahly and Wydad Athletic Club will play in the final of the 2022/23 Caf Champions League season.

The two sides played last year’s final with Wydad emerging victorious in the clash.

Ahly beat Esperance de Tunis 4-0 on aggregate while their Moroccan opponents held on to a 2-2 stalemate against Mamelodi Sundowns to qualify via the away-goal rule.

Al Ahly – Esperance

Percy Tau scored twice to give his side the edge in the first leg which was played in Tunis. Mahmoud Kahraba added the last as the Reds headed to Cairo with a huge advantage.

At home, Percy Tau’s first half goal was enough for the second leg, who will be hoping for a tenth Champions League title.

Sundowns – Wydad.

The first leg in Morocco ended goalless and all the action was for the game in South Africa.

Sundowns found the net with Themba Zwane early in the second half. But Wydad equalized with Ayoub El Amloud.

The Brazilians took the lead again with Peter Shalulile and it all looked set for the final.

But Mothobi Mvala’s own goal made it 2-2 in favour of the Moroccans.

The final begins June 4, 2023 in Egypt then the second game will happen on June 11 at Casablanca, Morocco.

In the Caf Confederation Cup, USM Algiers will play Young Africans on 28th May in Tanzania.

The second leg scheduled for Algeria will be played on 3rd June.

USMA beat Asec Mimosas 2-0 on aggregate while Yanga overcame Marumo Gallants 4-1 in the two legs
