2022/23 GPL: Aduana draw 2-2 at home to RTU

2022/23 Ghana Premier League leaders Aduana FC failed to account for Real Tamale United at the Nana Agyemang Badu Park on match-week 23.

The Fire Boys were held to a 2-2 draw in a weekend that saw fellow title contenders Accra Lions and Bechem United sharing the spoils.

RTU still in the relegation battle could have even claimed victory in Dormaa but they failed to hold the strong attacking work by their hosts.

It was the home side, who began the clash with urgency in their play, hoping to grab the opener.

Aduana had to wait till the second half to break the deadlock after missing some glaring opportunities.

In the 70th minute, the Fire Boys were awarded a penalty which resulted in RTU getting reduced to 10 men as Iddrisu Gaddafi got booked for the second time.

However, Aduana winger Sam Adams failed to utilize the opportunity and RTU sat deep in hopes of earning a point.

The home side then pushed further up the pitch as they searched for the opener.

Seven minutes later, the fans breathed a sigh of relief as central midfielder Adom Frimpong scored to give them a 1-0 lead.

The joy could not hold for long as ten-man RTU struck in the space of three minutes.

Abdul Manaf Umar scored twice in in the 85th and 88th minute to overturn the scoreline for the Northerners.

The visitors then sat deep and allowed Aduana to dominate the game.

And as a result, substitute Solomon Aboagye scored in additional time to draw the hosts level.

However, the visitors claim foul play during the game and expressed displeasure in the alleged acts of Aduana.

Aduana Stars are yet to respond to these comments.

The Ogya Boys maintain their position at the top with 40 points and head to Berekum Chelsea on match-week 24.

Real Tamale United, on the other hand, host Great Olympics in Tamale.
