Mohammed Alhassan: Kotoko sign free agent former Hearts defender until end of 2023/24 season

Asante Kotoko have announced the free-agent signing of defender Mohammed Alhassan.

The 30-year-old centre-back was officially released from the remaining year of his contract in early January by arch-rivals Hearts of Oak.

Alhassan was widely reported to be considering moving abroad. However, having seen that fail, the Porcupine Warriors have managed to lure him into their fold in a contract that will run until the end of the 2023/24 season.

A club statement on Thursday read:

“Mohammed Alhassan has joined Asante Kotoko on a one-and-a-half-year deal.

“Alhassan, having distinguished himself in the Ghana league, played an important role in ensuring the qualification of the Black Galaxies for the just-ended CHAN.

“Alhassan has won everything domestically and he is expected to add enormous experience to our team in our quest to achieve our targets this season and beyond.

“We welcome Mo Alhassan to the Porcupine family and wish him all the best.”

Mohammed Alhassan is a Ghana Premier League title and double FA Cup winner with Hearts of Oak. The Phobians acquired him from WAFA SC in December 2022. He played 121 matches in domestic competitions and scored one goal.
