Karela condemn basement boys Kotoku Royals to 13th defeat

With a 2-1 victory over Kotoku Royals on match-day 17 of the 2022/23 betPawa Ghana Premier League (GPL), Karela United handed the whipping boys their 13th defeat.

All three goals came through in the first half of the game at Crosby Awuah Memorial (CAM) Park.

Karela raced into the lead after 12 minutes through Abdul Kharim Ayeh.

But attacker Richard Dzikoe pulled the visitors level just six minutes later.

The hosts restored the lead with a penalty converted by on-loan Asante Kotoko winger Evans Adomako in the 35th minute.

The 2-1 score remained until the final whistle as both sides failed to convert their chances in the second half.

In the league standings, Karela United are now 14th with 22 points. Meanwhile, Kotoku Royals – who have endured a miserable start to their maiden top-flight campaign – end the first round rock bottom with 10 points (from 3 wins and a draw in 17 games).

Karela’s Ebenezer Ocran won the man-of-the-match award.
