Andy Kumi scores twice as Kotoku Royals bag three points against GoldStars

Bottom-placed Kotoku Royals shocked high-flying Bibiani GoldStars with a rare 3-2 win on match-day 15 of the 2022/23 betPawa Ghana Premier League (GPL).

It counts as a fitting response by Royals who returned to Cape Coast Stadium on Wednesday after falling to a 5-1 thrashing by champions Asante Kotoko three days ago.

Richard Dzikoe put the hosts in front with his second goal of the season at the half-hour mark.

New signing Francis Andy Kumi – who netted on his debut in last Sunday’s defeat – made it 2-0 just four minutes after the opener.

Ibrahim Laar halved the deficit by scoring from the penalty spot in the 57th minute – his 5th goal this season.

Kotoku Royals also got a penalty of their own which Andy Kumi converted to register his brace and a 3-1 advantage in the 71st minute. This gave Kotoku Royals some assurance of a third victory in the campaign.

In the final five minutes of play, GoldStars also saw new signing Abednego Tetteh score after coming off the bench just as he did on his debut last Saturday.

This 3-2 victory only improves Kotoku Royals’ tally to 10 points at the bottom of the standings after 15 matches. Bibiani GoldStars sit in fifth place with 23 points.
