VIDEO: Kotoko snatch last-gasp point at home against wasteful Olympics

Asante Kotoko snatched a last-gasp equaliser to share points with Great Olympics in a 2022/23 betPawa Ghana Premier League (GPL) match-day 11 fixture at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday.

The goal – scored by centre-back Andrews Appau in the 9th minute of stoppage time – left the visiting Dade Boys ruing their numerous glorious chances.

After a barren first half, it took Olympics under two minutes after the restart to break the deadlock.

Gideon Offei Ofori outwitted Nicholas Osei Bonsu down the left side of the Kotoko box and sent the ball across to the other side to left-back Abdul Bashiru who unleashed a shot that had Kotoko goalkeeper Frederick Asare judge poorly by following the ball into his net.

Things got more difficult for the Porcupine Warriors as Olympics trapped them on the counter but the visitors were just profligate.

An injury to centre-back Yusif Mubarik forced the introduction of Andrews Appau into the game and the latter came in handy after referee Jacob Aduntera added ten minutes of stoppage time.

Another substitute Rocky Dwamena was fouled in an advantageous area late on and Appau provided the needed flick with his head to the free-kick effected by Enock Morrison to save the day for Kotoko.

Following the 1-1 draw, Asante Kotoko drop to third position with 19 points while Great Olympics now sit in 11th with 15 after 11 games.

Samuel Abbey-Ashie Quaye of Great Olympics was adjudged man-of-the-match.
