Record champions Hearts of Oak went crashing out of the 2022/23 MTN FA Cup at the Round of 32 stage following a 1-0 defeat to Dreams FC at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.
A 9th-minute Agyenim Boateng Mensah curler decided the drama-filled encounter. Both sides missed a plethora of guilt-edged chances. After tirelessly leading the tie for large spells of the game, the visitors conceded a penalty in the final of an 8-minute stoppage time. But the Phobians failed to convert and force the game into penalty shootouts despite getting the chance for a retake after goalkeeper Augustine Koomson moved out of his line to save the first take by substitute Benjamin Yorke. Hearts changed their taker to Samuel Inkoom for the second opportunity, but the Dreams shot-stopper judged right and saved his kick too.
King Faisal pulled a shock away at Dun’s Park where they thrashed Bibiani GoldStars 4-1.
Also RTU defeated Wa Suntaa by same scoreline at the Aliu Mahama Stadium.
High-flying Division One side Skyy FC eliminated Ghana Premier League outfit Karela United with a 2-0 win at the St. Martins Park
The Cape Coast derby between Venomous Vipers and Ebusua Dwarfs at Robert Mensah Stadium ended 2-0 in favour of the latter.
Earlier on Saturday, Aduana FC came tops in a 3-2 Bono derby battle way to Bofoakwa while Asante Kotoko laboured to overcome Division Two side Benab FC 2-1 thanks to a Maxwell Agyemang stoppage time goal at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
