VIDEO: Legon Cities rally to hold Karela to 1-1 draw

Legon Cities opened match-day 10 of the 2022/23 betPawa Ghana Premier League (GPL) with a 1-1 draw at home to Karela United on Friday.

The Royals were hoping to beat Karela for the first time in GPL action. However, it was the visiting Karela side who took the lead in the 37th minute of the game at WAFA Park.

After a good run, defender Umar Faruk set up Emmanuel Owusu Boakye with a defense-splitting pass from midfield, and the attacker effectively buried the ball beyond a helpless Winfred Hornu in the Cities’ post.

Karela United could have added another goal before the break but had one effort come off the woodwork while a penalty appeal by striker Richard Berko was correctly ignored by referee Eso Doh Morrison.

Cities, however, came back strongly in the second half.

And striker Abdul Rahman brought them level in the 74th minute, heading home a rebound after centre-back Suleman Mohammed’s initial connection to Michael Ampadu’s corner kick came off the crossbar.

The two sides evened out in the remaining minutes and settled for a share of the spoils.

After 10 games, Legon Cities have tallied 15 points while Karela United are now on 12 points.

Abdul Rahman won the man-of-the-match award.
