VIDEO: Accra Lions bounce back against Karela for first win of the season

Accra Lions bounced back from an opening day defeat to overcome Karela United 2-1 in their 2022/23 Ghana Premier League (GPL) clash on Saturday.

It turned out a bad start for the visitors at the Accra Sports Stadium as they conceded twice in quick succession in the opening exchanges.

Lions broke the deadlock after 23 minutes through Samuel Gyimah who finished off a cross from teen sensation Baba Salifu Apiiga with a header that awkwardly went in between a Karela defender and his goalkeeper Felix Kyei.

The hosts soon stamped their authority on the match with another goal in the 27th minute. This time it was winger Daniel Awuni who doubled the lead with a nice curler from the edge of the box

Apiiga came close to adding a third for Lions through a neat free-kick combination with Remember Adomako Boateng in the 40th minute.

Karela threw everything at Lions in search of a comeback but could only manage a consolation goal which came through substitute and new signing Enock Agblenyo on the hour mark.

The game ended 2-1 with Accra Lions’ Hagan Frimpong winning the man-of-the-match award.

Both Accra Lions and Karela United are on three points each after two matches.
