CHAN 2022Q: Ivorian Biro Kouassi to referee Ghana vs Benin first leg

The Confederation of African Football (Caf) has appointed Cote d’Ivoire referee Biro Kouassi Frederic Francois as the man in charge of the 2022 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) qualifying first-leg match between Ghana and Benin later this month.

The Black Galaxies are scheduled to host this match at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on Wednesday, July 27. Kickoff is 16:00 GMT.

37-year-old Biro Kouassi – who has been an international referee since 2015 – will have countrymen Ashumu Hermann Arthur Melaine Aguie and Kalilou Bamba as Assistants I and II respectively.

Another Ivorian, Patrick Tanguy Vlei, has been named the Fourth Referee.

The Match Commissioner is Joseph Zangreyanogho from Burkina Faso.

Ghana’s Christiana Baah will act as COVID-19 Officer.

Coach Annor Walker’s Galaxies will hope to  give themselves a healthy advantage at Cape Coast before the second leg which comes off just three days later – July 30

The winner of the two legs will advance to take on Nigeria in the final round of qualifiers which will be cleared on August 26-28 for the first leg and September 2-4 for the reverse.

The 2022 edition of the continental tournament designed exclusively for footballers based in their own domestic leagues will for the first time have 18 finalists including the host nation. It is slated for January 13 to February 4, 2023 in Algeria.
