Inter Allies have been demoted to third-tier football for their involvement in a fixed match in the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League (GPL).
This is in relation to the July 17, 2021 fixture which ended 7-0 at Len Clay Stadium.
During this match, Inter Allies defender came off the bench and deliberately scored two own goals which he later claimed was done to scupper a correct scoreline of 5-1 in favour of the Miners.
Announcing its Disciplinary Committee verdict on Monday, May 16 – some ten months after “sporting investigations”, the GFA published:
“Inter Allies FC will be demoted to the Division Two League after being found guilty of match manipulation in their 2020/21 Ghana Premier League match-day 34 game against Ashantigold at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium.
“The decision takes effect from the 2022/23 league season.”
One Emmanuel Nii Amoah (aka Nii Gogo), a volunteer of the club was uncovered alongside AshantiGold president Dr. Kwaku Frimpong and his son Emmanuel the CEO were identified as lead characters in the manipulation of the match.
Footy-Ghana.com understands that Nii Amoah – who has been handed a lifetime ban from all football-related activities – acted on the blind side of the managers of Allies and in bid to prove the club’s innocence assisted the GFA with the strongest evidence of the dealings by pulling his call and Mobile Money records from Telecommunication Network MTN.
Inter Allies – currently playing in the Division One League – were also fined GHS100,000.
