Accra Great Olympics saw their 68th-anniversary celebrations muted by a 1-0 defeat to AshantiGold in front of their own fans on match-day 26 of the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League (GPL).
The club achieved its latest milestone on Thursday, April 21 with the rank and file expecting to mark it with victory as they turned up for the Saturday afternoon fixture at the Accra Sports Stadium – but coach Annor Walker and his charges failed to deliver a performance befitting of the occasion.
Olympics lacked cutting edge up front and made to pay with their first home defeat this season later in the second half.
In the 69th minute, winger Yaw Annor scored his 12th goal of the campaign for the Miners with a classic strike from outside the box and that proved enough to deliver the anniversary celebrations spoiler.
