AshantiGold hit six past sorry WAFA [+VIDEO]

AshantiGold piled on the misery for WAFA SC with an emphatic 6-0 victory in their 2021/22 Ghana Premier League (GPL) match-day 24 clash Saturday afternoon.

The Miners were typically in ruthless form at Len Clay Stadium and punished the Academy Boys for their mistakes at the back by wrapping up the game with five of the goals in the first half.

Yaw Annor grabbed a hat-trick to take his tally to 11 goals in 20 games this campaign.

It started off with a quick-fire brace for the winger who scored within one-minute interval.

Forward Isaac Opoku Agyemang brilliantly beat the offside trap to receive a Frank Akoto pass and went on to set Annor up to hit into a yawning net in the 13th minute.

Almost after restart, Annor snatched possession from Cheick Diarra and doubled up the lead for the hosts after skipping past three markers.

The third goal arrived in the 36th minute when Opoku Agyemang dribbled his way into the WAFA box and passed to Aminu Adams whose goal-bound strike was aided in by the leg of defender Henry Oware.

Oware will be credited an own goal for AshantiGold’s 4th as the centre-back heavily deflected an intended cross from Amos Kofi Nkrumah into his own net in the 39th minute.

The visitors’ capitulation continued even into first-half stoppage time with yet another poor goal concession. Goalkeeper Boliver Sarfo Owusu, under no pressure, poorly struck the ball low upfield but it got intercepted by Opoku Agyemang who allowed midfielder Eric Esso to expertly deliver an awesome strike from distance.

WAFA looked more composed in the second half but AshantiGold still found their way around to create and miss a number of gilt-edge chances.

Chief culprit Yaw Annor, however, managed to put one of them in to complete his hat-trick in the 81st minute.

That wrapped up the 6-0 win for AshantiGold – the highest scoreline recorded yet in the Ghana Premier League this campaign. Watch all goals.

The result leaves relegation-threatened WAFA confirmed second from bottom with 23 points after 24 matches while AshantiGold climb into 9th position with 31.

Hat-trick hero Yaw Annor was adjudged NASCO man-of-the-match.
