Newcomers GoldStars battle to 1-0 win over Medeama

Bibiani GoldStars beat Medeama SC in their second meeting of the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League (GPL) with a 1-0 score on Sunday.

The match-day 19 fixture at Dun’s Park saw the hosts wasting a first-half penalty but went on to notch the win in the second half.

Striker Prince Opoku Agyemang – who switched carpets on a permanent transfer from Medeama just weeks ago – won his side a penalty but elected himself and uncharacteristically blasted the spot-kick wide not in the 43rd minute.

Steven Owusu – also a new signing – however, netted what proved the matchwinner after a solo run just three minutes into the second half.

The 1-0 victory moves GoldStars three places up to 11th position with 23 points while Medeama are in 6th with 29 from 19 matches in the league standings.

Bibiani GoldStars have thus picked 4 points from the Mauve and Yellows in their first season in the Ghanaian topflight. The two sides played to a 1-1 draw when they first clashed on match-day 2 at Tarkwa.

Midfielder Emmanuel Appau of GoldStars won the NASCO man-of-the-match award.
