Bechem edge Sharks 3-2 with last-gasp winner

Emmanuel Owusu came off the bench and struck in the final minute of stoppage time to deliver a massive 3-2 win for Bechem United in their 2021/22 Ghana Premier League (GPL) match-day 20 trip to Elmina Sharks on Sunday.

A lively first half with chances at both ends at Nduom Stadium saw the Hunters cruise into a 2-0 lead.

After 19 minutes, Emmanuel Annor registered the opener with what was a feeble strike that goalkeeper Lord Bawa Martey failed to deal with.

Six minutes later, goalkeeper Martey again spilled Francis Twene’s shot from distance for Augustine Okrah to pounce and make it 2-0.

But Sharks clawed themselves back with two goals from Tahir Mensah.

Mensah halved the deficit in the 36th minute with an effort goalkeeper Abdulai Iddrisu could have done something about.

He got his brace in the 78th minute after a beautiful build-up which saw Charles Obeng brilliantly dribbling past defender Samuel Osei Kuffour.

With 2-2 looking a fair score, substitute Owusu settled the game in the 95th minute, sending the away contingent into delirium.

The win keeps Bechem United in fourth in the Ghana Premier League standings on 34 points. Sharks are stuck bottom on 12 points.
