Celta Vigo have announced Ghana’s Joseph Aidoo as their Player of the Month for January 2022.
The 26-year-old centre-back’s fine form at the start of the new year saw him start three of four matches for the side during the month.
Aidoo turned disappointment from a last-minute exclusion from Ghana’s squad to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon into motivation, raking 20 clearances, 6 tackles and interceptions each in the games he played.
Celta Vigo recorded a 1-0 loss to Real Sociedad, a 2-0 win over Osasuna and a 2-2 draw against Sevilla (did not complete due to a thigh injury) when he played in January.
Receiving the Estrella Galicia Award – his first since joining Celta – which was decided by votes from the fans, Aidoo said:
“I am very happy, it is very important to me, it gives me a lot of confidence.”
After emphasizing that the award is also due to the performance of each of his teammates, he indicated that “I am satisfied with my game and of course with the team.”

Joseph Aidoo is in line for another starting berth when Celta Vigo take on Rayo Vallecano on Saturday, February 5.
