Awal Salifu: Performance Analyst joins Black Stars backroom for Afcon 2021

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has engaged the services of top Performance Analyst Awal Kamin Salifu for the Black Stars ahead of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) finals in Cameroon.

The addition of Awal follows the express demand of head coach Milovan Rajevac for key additions to his backroom for the flagship continental tournament.

Awal is no stranger to GFA circles as he previously worked with the Ghana male U-17 and U-20 teams between September 2017 and January 2020. He was the Performance Analyst for the Black Starlets team which unearthed the likes of Mohammed Kudus at the 2017 Fifa U-17 World Cup in India.

Between August 2014 and November 2020, Awal worked as head of Performance Analysis at Right to Dream Academy. Almost two years into the role, he enjoyed an extra appointment as opposition analyst for the first team of sister club FC Nordsjaelland in Denmark.

“…He has varied experience in player performance analysis and monitoring and will be a top-quality addition to the Technical team,” the GFA wrote on its website.

Awal Kamin Salifu is already on duty at the Black Stars’ Afcon training camp in Doha, Qatar.

The team plays African champions Algeria in its only warm-up match later Wednesday afternoon. Kickoff is 4pm.

Ghana will be facing Morocco, Gabon and Comoros in Group C of the Cameroon Afcon.
