U-20 WWCQ: South Africa eliminated by Uganda

South Africa have been booted out of the 2022 Fifa U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers by Uganda.

Hosting the Ugandans in a third-round second-leg clash in Johannesburg on Friday, Basetsana needed to overturn a deficit they suffered in the first leg.

A solo goal by Hadija Nandago at St Mary’s Stadium in Kitende had given Uganda a 1-0 advantage a fortnight ago.

But Basetsana failed to make their mark at home as they found it hard to unlock a firm Uganda defence.

The game ended in a 0-0 draw at Dobsonville Stadium.

Uganda thus advance to the fourth and penultimate round of the African qualifiers to Costa Rica 2022 with a 1-0 win on aggregate.

They now await the winner of the tie between the Black Princesses of Ghana and Zambia’s Young Copper Queens which will be determined at Cape Coast Stadium on Saturday.
