Second-half goals from Kofi Kordzi and Daniel Afriyie saw Hearts of Oak win 2-0 against Accra Lions in a 2021/22 Ghana Premier League (GPL) match-day 9 clash at Cape Coast Stadium.
The Sunday night victory sees the Phobians move out of the relegation zone to 12th with 9 points from six games played.
Kordzi scored a rebound moments after coming on from the bench in the 62nd minute. Lions goalkeeper Frederick Asare gifted Hearts the goal in trying to restart play.
Daniel Afriyie – who spurned a couple of gilt-edged chances in the first half – doubled the lead for the champions six minutes later, latching onto a Kwadwo Obeng Junior through ball and finishing cleanly.
Samuel Boadu’s team cruised to their second win of the season against the newly-promoted side.
The defeat means Accra Lions are back in the drop zone – in 16th – with 8 points from 9 games.
Hearts of Oak will play Dreams FC away in Dawu while Accra Lions host Real Tamale United on Boxing Day.
