#GPLwk3: Kotoko pip GoldStars away to continue perfect start

Asante Kotoko continued their perfect start to the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League (GPL) season with a 1-0 victory over Bibiani GoldStars at Dun’s Park Friday afternoon.

The Porcupine Warriors were largely dominated in the first half but managed to prevent their newly-promoted hosts from scoring.

GoldStars were left to rue their missed opportunities as Kotoko got better from the restart and went on to take the lead.

Young winger Isaac Oppong – who has been a super-sub in the opening two games – was handed his first start and crowned the feat with a fascinating curler from the edge of the box to break the deadlock 10 minutes into the second half.

The 1-0 lead nearly slipped in stoppage time but goalkeeper Razak Abalora proved his worth to prevent GoldStars striker Prince Owusu Kwabena from scoring.

The win sees Asante Kotoko, who now have three wins from their opening three GPL games, move three points clear of city rivals King Faisal at the top of the standings. Faisal, also with two straight wins, host AshantiGold at Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday.

Bibiani GoldStars captain Yakubu Dzia Ull Haqq was named NASCO man-of-the-match.
