Felix Afena-Gyan: AS Roma teen sensation handed first Ghana call-up

Just about a week after breaking into the AS Roma first team, Ghanaian teen sensation Felix Ohene Afena-Gyan has chalked another first – a call-up to the senior national team.

The 18-year-old has been listed in a 28-man squad by Black Stars coach Milovan Rajevac for this month’s final round of games in the African qualifiers to the 2022 Fifa World Cup.

Afena-Gyan joined Roma in January after impressing on trial. He was first spotted back home by scouts while playing school football.

He has been the subject of attention since manager Jose Mourinho handed him a senior debut against Cagliari in the Italian Serie A last week. He went on to feature in his second game in last Sunday’s defeat to AC Milan.

There is also a first-time call-up for FC Sheriff midfielder Edmund Addo

Ghana  – currently placed second in Group G – will play Ethiopia (away) and South Africa (home) to complete their campaign on November 11 and 14 respectively.
