Berekum Chelsea hand King Faisal season’s first defeat

Berekum Chelsea handed King Faisal their first defeat with a 1-0 win in the opening game of match-day four of the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League (GPL) Friday afternoon.

It was a welcome for coach Moses Cofie who took over the Bibires only two days ago.

Forward Paul Attah Agyei scored what secured the three points for the one-time champions with an audacious hopeful strike that managed to beat goalkeeper Frank Boateng after 35 minutes of play at the Golden City Park.

Visiting King Faisal – who had kept a 100% record in their opening three games – came strongly in the second half in a bid to get back into the game but the host’s goalkeeper Gregory Obeng Sekyere thwarted their efforts with some standout saves

Berekum Chelsea nearly killed off the contest in stoppage time but striker Kofi Owusu failed to guide his header into the net.

The solitary goal victory is the Bibires’ first in two attempts at home this season and are now on four points after four matches.

Berekum Chelsea captain and midfielder Jackson Owusu was adjudged NASCO man-of-the-match.
