AshantiGold defeat struggling Hearts with second half goals

AshantiGold piled more pressure on stuttering champions Hearts of Oak with a 2-0 victory in their 2021/22 Ghana Premier League (GPL) match-day four clash at Len Clay Stadium Sunday afternoon.

Two second-half goals ensured the Miners are back to winning ways after last week’s defeat to King Faisal while the Phobians, after three consecutive draws, lose their first game of the season.

After a goalless first half, during which Emmanuel Nettey and Patrick Razak missed two great opportunities to give Hearts the lead, Yaw Annor slotted past goalkeeper Richard Attah to give the hosts the lead eight minutes in the second half.

Abdul Salam doubled the lead for AshantiGold in stoppage time after slamming home a rebound to pile more pressure on Samuel Boadu and his charges.

The win takes AshaniGold to 5th with 7 points while Samuel Boadu’s team drops further down the table to 15th position with just three points after four games this season.

The Miners will play as guests to Real Tamale United next while Hearts of Oak host JS Saoura in the first leg of their 2021/22 Caf Confederation Cup playoffs on Sunday, November 28.
