Kotoko sign 22-year-old goalkeeper Rafiu Yakubu

Asante Kotoko have signed goalkeeper Abdul Rafiu Yakubu from Division One side Wa Suntaa SC.

The rather curious addition to an already established trio of Razak Abalora, Kwame Baah and Danlad Ibrahim heightens speculations one of them is set to leave the club.

The younger Danlad has had his stay been in doubt as he enters the final year of his contract and is not guaranteed regular game time, something he crucially needs to keep his place at the Ghana senior national team.

Both Danlad and the club were exploring the possibility of a contract extension followed by a third loan outing or an outright sale of the Ghana U-20 Afcon winner in recent weeks.

Now Kotoko have moved to sign 22-year-old Rafiu who comes as a backup goalkeeper.

Rafiu only joined Wa Suntaa during the second half of last season from Nkoranza Warriors.

He adds to a tall list of new signings by the Porcupine Warriors ahead of the 2021/22 season.

Kotoko have, during the registration window officially announced the addition of Richmond Lamptey, Maxwell Agyemang, Clinton Opoku, Richard Boadu, Samuel Appiah, Samuel Boateng, Isaac Oppong, Augustine Agyapong, Sheriff Mohammed, Dickson Afoakwa, Joseph Amoako, Stephen Amankona to their roster.

The announcement of two Cameroonian strikers – Georges Mfegue and Franck Thierry Etouga Mbella is also pending.
